Glass - Leg - Bang - Blood - Stiches
http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"> name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 12"> name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 12">This morning I went to my friends ‘, Pat and Julie’s, house to help them install the electrical into the new home. Before we got started Pat and I were moving some old glass pieces that were in the attic above the living room. I was carrying them over the rafter boards and handing them down to Pat on the ground floor. It was going smoothly until the last couple pieces when one of the sheets shattered in air and a piece came down slicing down to my shin bone. I looked down instantly there was pool of blood already soaked through my shoe and collecting on the board. It didn’t look that bad and Pat hollered up to see if I needed any assistance. I froze when it happened, holding onto the remaining pieces for they were ready to drop as well. Pat laddered up to find broken glass, pool of blood and I stating the cut was not that bad, just a gusher. He looked at the cut and didn’t quite agree after seeing the flap of skin folded down my leg.
I didn’t have my insurance card with me so I had to make some calls to get my information of my health plan. Judy, my uncles secretary at the insurance office got me what I needed for my doctors visit. Joy, a lady from the church brought me in and with only a two hour wait at a walk in health clinic I got to see the doctor. I was contemplating stitching it myself but since it was on the shin I thought it may be a little harder to do by myself, for the skin is tight there.
I made small talk with the doctor for a bit and then let him know I am a Do-It-Yourself kind of guy, so if he could walk me through everything he is doing and using I would appreciate it, and if were any bit annoying he should tell me to shut up and let him do his job. He appreciated that, and then proceeded to lay out everything explaining everything. Most of it, I already knew but a few things I took note of. Like, the type of stitch and the double squared knot. He gave me 6 or 8 interal stitches with Polysorb thread and then 10 or so stables on the outside. I stopped him before the staples, to let him know I wanted to take the stitches out myself and wanted to know what it would take to take staples out at home.“A special tool” he said. - Doc
“One I can get on the street.” - Me
“Afraid not.” - Doc
“Shucks what can I use at home then.” - Me
“ Wire cutters and a needle nose pliers, but I do not recommend it.” - Doc
“I think that is the practicing physician in you speaking. Right?”
“Perhaps.” - Doc
“If you were I, in my case, what would you use?”
“The special tool.” - Doc
“And where can I get this special tool? “
“How about you just come in, in 10 days, and I will let you take them out yourself.” - Doc
“Only if I don’t get charged for the visit.”
[Laughs] - Doc
“Well, then can I take home one of these ‘special tools?’”
“I wouldn’t feel comfortable practicing in such a way.” - Doc
“Lets say I find one of these tools….”
“Yes, you would easily be able to do it yourself. A toddler could probably even do it for you.” - Doc
“how much are they?”
“Next to nothing. We only use them once and then toss them, because it cost more to sterilize them then to use a brand new tool.” - Doc
“Think I can get one from a vet?”
“Any vet that does surgeries, probably has them. They will defiantly be asking questions when you go asking around for it though.” - Doc
“Oh, I forgot. This is California. Where in many cases animals are cared for more than people.”
[laughs]…. “Well, I will see you in 10 days. And if I don’t, I know you got it done yourself. Also, off the record, I wish more people like you would come through this door, or maybe not even come through the door. From your curiosity, knowledge and confidence, you could have easily done this whole thing at home. I have sawn myself up quite a few times, works just fine and it is a whole lot cheaper.“

I am helping my friend, Rob, put up his carbon fiber road bike on ebay. I liked how the profile picture came out. Looks as if it is balancing by itself.

Lost 2 1/2 years of email, web photos and receipts
One of my favorite things of the internet world is the functionality of Google Mail (gmail). I switched over to it April 2007 and have been storing emails. I have also been using Google Notebook, Google Picasa, Google Finances, & Google Doc Storage. It is nice to have my stuff backed up on this system where I can store it and access it from anywhere.
Then comes Thursday morning. I go to check my email and it says my Google Account has been disabled for violaction of Terms of Service. I have been wracking my brain on this and can not think of anything that may have set off my account of violation of a term. They had a form to fill out if I thought it was done in error so I did. Once submitting it says. Google service will contact you if they have anymore information on the issue, but they have a right to cancel your account at any time for any reason. So 24 hours passes by, still no word from Google. I then start doing a search on other people that have had the same situation. I have read hundreds of forum pages and testimonials now and out of all of them I have not read of one getting their account back. No one receives word from Google and there is no such thing as a Google Customer Service Number. There is a loop of three forms online that lead to no response from Google nor a human person to talk to.
So my major lose out of this is that I lost all my receipts for warranties. I have been scanning them all in and emailing them to myself. Also all my frequent flyer information of usernames and pin numbers are gone. All my pictures that I blog with are on my google picasa account so if you go back in my entries there will be no images anymore, just broken ones.
You will never here me suggest Google again. That is for sure.
Anyone know of a good Gmail alternative?

Just now, 11:15pm, while riding my bike home on Compton Blvd a car pulls up alongside of me and shoots two rounds of paint balls at me. One hits the heel of my shoe and other my back rim. It scared me and making me swerve into the curb. I somehow kept my balance though and rode through it with no bodily damage to the bike or myself. I turned off down Harris street to check out my bike and only noticeable thing was the yellow paint smeared on my rear tire and some splatter the back of my calf.

How To...
The MIT Unicycle Club method of how to ride a unicycle:
1. Get two friends to stand on either side of you and get up on the unicycle with your arms around their shoulders.
Sit up straight; look straight ahead; weight on seat, not on pedals. Rock the pedals to get a sense of balance. Get the pedals level; this is when you are in control.
2.Pedal half turns then stop. Then full turns, two turns, etc. Doing multiples of half turns (from pedals level to pedals level again) is harder than continuously pedaling, but keeps you in control.
3. Switch to holding on to your friends' wrists.
4. Switch to holding on to one friend's wrist.
5. Go off and use a wall instead of your one friend. (If you can't find a wall and a flat surface to ride on then continue with one friend, but let go as much as you can.)
Steps 1-5 should not take more than an hour (perhaps in 10 minute sessions). The thing about learning this way is that one will most likely never hurt themselves in the process.
For some people, the get on, fall off do-it-yourself cycle works best. It's a matter of personality.

1) At 10 this morning I was on my way to the library to verify my address so I can get a LA county library card. On my way I had two people come from my blindside. I stopped thinking it was people jay walking. I turn to look at them and they are sherrif deputs with their pistols drawn waving for me to get out of the way while they are in a sting operation of a back yard. Turns out there were 10 cops and as I turned around a block down to see, they were dragging 3 guys out of the house planting them face down in the front lawn.
2) 5 more blocks down I see a Metro bus side swipe a car and then keep on driving. The mirror was wripped off and the side panel was badly scratch, but neither seemed to car and kept on with their way.
3) Then this evening when I was on my 17 mile commute to the Bicycle Kitchen. I come up to the interesection of 92nd and San Pedro in South Central LA. As I pull up a van is parked just into the intersection and lady is screaming. As I pull up I see her holding her limp bady in her arms. I through down my bike ran to her and she thrusted her baby into my arms. There was no sign of life, the 6-7 month old girl was pale white and limp as a rag dole, not a breath, maybe a pulse but I could not tell. People on the side of the street where on the phone calling 911. The mother did not speak English so I had no idea what was wrong. All I could gather was that maybe the infant had choked on something because there was drool coming from her mouth. I knelt down in the middle of the street next to the van. Assuming it was from choking on something I flipped the child over on to my forearm and took the my heel of my hand and twapped three times real hard on its back. Still no side of anything coming out, but the baby did make a weird girgle sound. I tilted her over further and did one more blow at this point there was 5 other people that came up and they all gave me their sell phones. Saying "911, Busy, no Inglish, You, 911" I took one of people phones and called but I got the "All Emergency Operators are busy" as well. I through down the phone and a guy gave the baby back to me, even though it was only a few seconds from before the baby had life. It started to vomit and after a bit let out a small wimper of a cry. That was a good sign. The crowd then grew to 30 or 40 people and two cops came on the scene and took over. And the ambulance followed shortly.
Never before have I had to do the Heimlich Maneuver to someone, until this past month I have done it twice.
As I rode on a couple more miles, it almost seemed like a dream.

see relatedProject #1 - Nishiki Rally
Picked up this Nishiki Rally 10 speed at a garage sale last week for $20. Yesterday I took it all apart except for the pedals which are frozen on and am currently trying to soak with liquid wrench. The tires had water in them which caused the inside of the rims to rust almost completely through, so I thought I would be throwing them away but then Matt read about using old rims as a bean ladder in the garden. Organic Gardening Mag I will cut the spokes out tomorrow and hopefully have beans inhabiting the bicycle garbage soon.
I still have not decided to convert the bike to single speed or clean everything back up and keep it a speedster.
